Settings do the following:
- SOD alpha: Change the transparency of the stroke order diagram. A high transparency can be usefull in navigation mode to read the definition bellow the SOD
- SOD speed: Change the speed of the stroke order animations
- Romaji readings: If on the readings will be written in romaji. If off the readings will be written in kana
- AutoUpdate (v1.1 and up): If on Shinkanji will automatically check online if an updated version of its database exists if one does, you will be prompted to replace the database

- More legible display of kanji info:
- Toggle play and pause button when the animation is playing.
- Check for database update and prompt for download (only in v1.1):
- At startup, in the background Shinkanji checks and detects the presence of an updated database on the internet

- if yes is selected, the new database is downloaded in the background, then when it is available:

- if no was selected, autoupdate will be disabled (it can be reenabled in the settings panel):

- Navigate between recently studied kanjis. New Previous and Next button enable browsing back to previously studied kanji:
