Database update 1.6

September 7 2008
Merge of several elements, the navigation on kanjis containing the kanji JIS:4E40 (Kome) as a subelement to the left should have a better navigation. Sorry for not putting the kanji itself on the website, I am on a trip and do not have access to my personal machine.

Tour page up to date

August 27 2008
For those of you who prefer images to videos, I have updated the tour page. This tour is based on v1.1 but you will find at the bottom of the page the difference between 1.1 and 1.0. If apple is consistent we can expect 1.1 in the App Store in a week.

ShinKanji v1.1 submitted

ShinKanji v1.0 is on the App Store

August 26 2008

11 days is what it took, 7 days for the app review by apple but 11 days for the contract approval.  If I had known I would have applied before the app was ready.

Anyway I hope you are going to enjoy the application and I am waiting for your feedbacks so let's meet in the forums.

By the way v1.1 is ready I am going to send it to apple today and I'll put the change descriptions with screenshot today or tomorrow on the site.

ShinKanji v1.0 sent to apple for review

August 15 2008

Finally I sent ShinKanji for publication in the appstore. It is ironic how difficult and convoluted that process is. In particular it is surprising when you see how polished apple development tools are that the signing functionality is so arcane and badly documented. In fact the instructions given by apple to sign a program are plain incorrect and resulted in hours of frustration until I found on the web someone who had posted the solution to my issues. Of course the NDA preventing free communication with others on any SDK related topic doesn't help

Enough ranting, I hope you will appreciate this first release, many additional features are planned and this one may seem low in features compared to others. However I wanted to get the product out to let people experience the 2 unique features of the application:

The second one in particular enables you to navigate from one kanji to all the kanjis containing it and to all the kanji it contains, it is an entertaining and educating way to discover new kanjis.

One detail, ShinKanji is priced at $4.99. Updates will of course be free but when the feature set increases significantly, I may increase the price for new buyers
